Where to Find Music Samples Online
There is something authentic and exciting about going to the record store and digging in the crates to find rare vinyl. Two downsides – it can get expensive buying vinyl and records take up a lot of space. Although you won’t necessarily get that true vinyl sound, there are ton of ways to find samples online. Here are some of the best avenues to finding music to sample online.
Radiooooo
Radiooooo.com allows find music from all over the world over several decades. Have you heard what music sounded like in Algeria in the 1930’s or what music sounded like in Malaysia in the 80’s? All you have to do is find the country on the map, select the decade and you are musically transported to that time to hear some of the most obscure vintage songs to chop up, loop, and sample.
Everynoise
Dark Psytrance? Microhouse? Vaportwitch? Sample all of these sub-genres of music at Everynoise.com. Just click on a genre and record straight to your DAW and you’re all set. It’s almost a guarantee that you will never have heard the songs playing on this site.
Blogspot
Awesome and amazing curators of great music have uploaded incredibly deep and obscure vinyl classics onto their pages. Soulfunk80’s, VinylFrontierReefali, VinylGenius are three of my favorites, this Reddit thread has much more to check out.
Speaking of Reddit, there are 3 solid subreddits where you can find great songs to sample. I’ve pulled a lot of samples for this site from these three subreddits.
- Vintage Obscura – Songs that are at least 25 years old and have less than 30,000 views on Youtube
- Hot Samples – A place where Redditors post songs that they think would be interesting to chop up and repurpose
- Listen To This – A place where Redditors post new or overlooked artists of various genres
